A Breton Ramble part 1 Emily Hobhouse

I've been meaning to write a blog for ages but somehow 'life' always got in the way. So now I've made time. I have no particular theme for my blog, just what is occupying me at the time.

I saw a piece about Emily Hobhouse last night that was very powerful. I'd never heard of her, have you? Essenatially she was a Cornish woman who annoyed authority! She went out to South Africa during the Boer war and kicked up a stink about the conditions that women and children were living in in the camps and the government eventually had to listen and take action. She returned to England and took up other causes, including the suffragettes. She eventually died a spinster, unknown and unloved in London. However in South Africa she was afforded a state funeral, the only foreigner ever to be given one. So now I'd like to find out more about her....
